Danny Lula Perham McMillion

February 18, 2017

Danny Lula Perham McMillion Danny Lula Perham McMillion surrendered to death on February 18, 2017. She died with quiet dignity, the very way she had lived her 78 years.
Danny was born atop PityMe Mountain to a half-wild Indian girl with long dark hair and a Kentucky moonshiner who left the state just one step ahead of the law. Her education began early as her Grandpa taught her about the mountains, plants, trees and wildlife. That start on her education only made her thirsty for more knowledge. Her career as a librarian was the only career that could quench that thirst.
She received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the University of Kentucky and served the people in Greenbrier County, Wyoming County, Kanawha County and finished her career with service to the people of Raleigh County as Director of Raleigh County libraries.
Danny began her story telling career when her youngest son Patrick innocently asked, "Mommie, how old are you?"
There followed a story about pet Brontosauruses and Dinosaurs. Patrick was trying to finish a school project and said, "I'll just interview Dad."
Danny would introduce herself to you and then add, "I'm a liar."
One of Danny's greatest sources of entertainment was to torment her oldest son Brenton when she was traveling. She would text him about kidnappings by motorcycle gangs, dancing on table tops and breaking a leg, and spending a night in jail.
She took great delight in stretching the truth, but quickly restored your faith in human nature by her gentle acts of kindness. The seeds of friendship she planted in her garden bloomed into explosive and vibrant colors.
Danny loved these Appalachia Mountains. She had a fierce pride in West Virginia and its people. I know her friends will remember her with that same fierce pride.
We will honor this grand West Virginia lady on Saturday, Feb. 25th at 4:00 pm at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Fr. Jon White of Stephens Episcopal Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm.
