Alma Delores Gillispie Zeboskey
On December 7, 2019, Alma Delores Gillispie Zeboskey went home to be with her two loves, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her husband of 69 years, Tony. Tony preceded her in death just 3 short months ago, on September 3, 2019. They never missed an anniversary together in their 69 years of marriage. This year, on their 70th, it will be no different, as they will celebrate it, together in Heaven.
Alma Delores Gillispie was born July 22, 1928, in Caloric, West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents Darious Gillispie and Flora Bratton Gillispie, as well as two brothers, Thomas (Tom) Gillispie and Malcom (Mac) Gillispie. She was raised in Tommy Creek, WV, with her six brothers and sisters. Those siblings left to cherish her memory are her brother, Robert (Junior) Gillispie, and sisters, Ruth Morgan, Margaret (Jean) Cline Bremen, and Gloria Payne.
Alma was a very determined and independent woman in a time when that was not the norm. After attending Stoco high school, she started working for Murphy's in Mullens, WV. She took the bus from Tommy Creek to Mullens to work, until she met and married her lifelong love, Tony Zeboskey.
Tony and Alma were married on Christmas Eve, 1949, and moved to Black Eagle, WV. There they had two daughters by which they are survived, Cathy Lester and her husband, Ballard, and Teresa Cox and her husband, Robert. It should be mentioned that Alma loved both Ballard and Robert as if they were her own sons. Alma and Tony later moved to Midway, WV, where they raised their daughters. During this time Alma went to work for G.C. Murphy's in Uptown Beckley.
Alma was a woman full of love. If she loved you, she did so with her whole heart. She had a particular soft spot for children, not only her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but a host of nieces and nephews along with their children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren by which she is survived are Brian Lester, his children Nickolas and Andrew along with their mother Stephanie, Emily and Aaron Bowles, their children Lainey, Reece, and Natalie, and Christopher and Jennifer Cox and their daughter Camryn.
Alma lived a full life in her 91 years and left a legacy of love, kindness and a giving spirit.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 2 PM with Pastor Bobby Carter officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Private online condolences, floral tributes, and other expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family via our guestbook at www.roseandquesenberry.net.
Arrangements are by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV.
