Anna Austin Acord, of Rocky Point, NC, formerly of Marshall, VA, lost her courageous battle with ovarian cancer on December 31, 2017. She was born January 18, 1943, in McDowell County WV to Paul and Addie Austin, now deceased.
Anna is survived by her husband of 56 years Bobby Acord of Rocky Point, NC, daughter Leigh Anna Willard (Chip) and granddaughter Kenton Elizabeth of Ivanhoe, NC and her faithful canine companion, Gracie. Survivors also include brothers Kenneth (Betty) of Beaver, WV, Charles (Bonnie) of Herndon Heights, WV, George Robert of Mt. Hope WV, and Melvin (Nora) of Princeton, WV and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Kenton Russell, Kenny, and brothers, Earnest and Billy.
Anna graduated Herndon High School in 1960, married shortly after and moved with Bobby to numerous locations throughout the U.S. and Germany. She raised her family in Marshall, VA and also worked for the Central Intelligence Agency in Langley, VA. Upon retirement from the CIA, she and Bobby moved to Rocky Point, NC.
Anna loved the outdoors and to travel, always enjoying the beauty of nature. She spent many hours gardening in her backyard oasis, tending to her birds and keeping the roadsides beautiful. Anna was an avid reader. She thoroughly enjoyed the stories and lives of others and loved to learn, always eager to further her knowledge. She had great empathy for others and could always find the good in everyone. Anna was a generous supporter of numerous charities and volunteered her time at Mother Hubbards Cupboard.
Anna was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She cherished her role of Nanny and her time spent with Kenton Elizabeth and thoroughly enjoyed teaching her the basics of life.
