Bertha Wood Warden


Bertha Chlorine Wood Warden, age 102, of Beckley, WV, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Bowers Hospice House.
Born on April 17, 1917, at Grandview, she was the daughter of the late Will Rogers and Elsie Goad Rogers.
Mrs. Warden was a homemaker, and had served as a poll worker for elections in Raleigh County well into her eighties. During WWII, she served as a munitions inspector in Maryland.
She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Beckley, and enjoyed walking, gardening, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Wood, by second husband Arthur Lewis Warden, son Harry Wood Jr., grandson Arthur Scott Warden, sons-in-law, Bob Bryant and Roger Clemens, daughters-in-law, Virgie Wood and Janet Warden, a sister Charlotte Bragg, and by two brothers Winifred and Cameron Rogers.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her four daughters: Yvonne Bryant of Knoxville, TN, Drema Clemens of Salisbury, NC, Karen Long and husband Dwight of Greenville, SC, and Debbie Meadows and husband Dale of Shady Spring; three sons, Roger Warden of Grandview, Arthur Warden Jr. and wife Sharon of Daniels, and Tim Warden and wife Mary of Asbury.
Thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at 2 PM with Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery at Grandview, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
