Carl Estic Bennett, age 96, of the Sprague Community, Beckley, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Beckley VA Medical Center.
Born on December 29, 1920 at Abraham, he was the son of the late David Bennett and Effie M. Smith Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education, where he served as a school bus driver. He was also a former bus driver for Quesenberry Bus Lines in Beckley. Mr. Bennett was a WWII US Army Veteran, and was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church. In his early years, he was the owner of Bennett Brother's Grocery in Beckley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Bennett; by children, Jackie Bennett, Kathryn Bailey, Dawnie Denny, and Brenda Metrick; by brothers, John, Edward, Omer, Oral, Earl, Noah, Kyle, and Orda Bennett; by sisters, Dexter Plumley, Sona Pack, Ruth Pack and Stella Plumley, and by grandson, Peggy's son, Greg Dangerfield.
Mr. Bennett was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was affectionately known as "Mousey" to close family members and friends.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Peggy Campbell, of Beaver and a special daughter-in-law, Sarah Bennett, of Piney View. Ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 2 PM with Pastor Bill Parker and Pastor Bill Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Sunday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
