Cecelia Dean Scott Ellenbogen, 79, passed away, surrounded by her family, at the Bowers Hospice House Saturday, July 15, 2017.
She was born January 9, 1938 in Milburn, WV, to the late Dorothy Cameron Scott Burke and Earl W. Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father Samuel L. Burke; an infant sister, Frances Lou Scott; sisters, Patricia (Ronald) Bowling, Peggy (Clarence) Ewing; sister-in-law, Sandra Scott; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dorothy and Archie Ellenbogen.
Cecelia was a 1956 Woodrow Wilson graduate. She later graduated from the Raleigh County Vocational and Technical School (now ACT) LPN program. She went on to Bluefield State and obtained her nursing degree. She was a registered nurse at Appalachian Regional Hospital, working in various departments for ten years until declining health led to her retirement. Her family was quite proud of her return to school after twenty years to pursue her dream of a nursing career. She truly loved her career choice, working with the staff, and her patients.
She enjoyed creating many handmade items especially in counted cross-stitch and embroidery. Those creations are now priceless treasures to her family. She was an excellent cook with family favorites being spaghetti, cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies. She couldn't resist stopping for a yard sale to look for a bargain and was an avid WVU Mountaineer football fan.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, James Ellenbogen; daughters, Karen (Roger) Reed of Beckley, Rebecca (Michelle Noland) of Morgantown, and Alicia of Beckley; son, Mark of Beckley; grandsons, Andrew (Tara) Reed of Beckley and Peyton Ellenbogen of Beckley; great grandson, Wyatt Scott Reed of Beckley; brother, Joey Scott of Indianapolis, IN; special friends, Brenda Bailey and Drema Buckland; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Angela Crook of City Slickers and Becky Poland of Body by Becky for the years of pampering they provided to Cecelia. They would also like to express gratitude to Dr. Scott Lostetter and Nora Shea for their years of care and Bowers Hospice House for their compassion in the final hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Dr., Beckley, WV 25801.
