Charles V. Acord
Born March 2, 1930, at Devil's Fork, WV, he was the son of the late Charles Elliot and Rosie Pearl Acord.
He was also preceded in death by the love of his life and 60-year wife, Deema; his brothers Clyde, Gib, and Roy, and sister Sylvia Fraley.
All because two people fell in love, survivors include his 3 children: Drema (Buddy) Harris-Sturgill of Mullens, Joy (Kenneth) Birchfield of Pierpoint, and Pastor Charles Jr. "Butch" (Kathy) Acord of Crab Orchard. Seven grandchildren: Christol (Nyle Jr.) Fisher and Kennett Shrewsberry of Winfield, Charles III "Butchie" (Amanda) Acord of Coal City, Kim (Tommy) Blankenship of Corinne, Leigh (Joe) Price of Mullens, Tina Acord of Raleigh, NC, and Kenny (Missy) Birchfield of Mullens. Eighteen great-grandchildren Josh (Aria) Fisher, Racheal (Gavan) Adkins, Michaela Fisher; Courtney, Kelsey, and Chloe Shrewsberry; Bella, Kennedy, and Charles IV Acord; Emma Blankenship; Kealee, Charleigh, Kenna, Chase, and Kace Charles Price; Tony, Serenity, and Luke Acord. Great-great-grandchild: Alex. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Virgil proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and he was recognized as an Expert Marksman. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, ginsenging, mushroom picking, and gardening. When his health allowed, he loved to bowl.
Virgil attended the Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church and proudly proclaimed his love of the Lord and his family at every service. He loved gospel music, especially when it was his family singing it.
Virgil never met a stranger. His personality, charm, and charisma captivated. He magnetically drew people in. To know him was to love him. His eyes were as blue as the ocean. When he talked, you listened. He was always generous and lively and held the ability to increase one's self-worth and mood just by being in his presence. He was an epitomal patriarch, and his legacy will continue for decades. If life span was measured by personal goodness and the amount of love given and received, he would have lived forever.
Services will be 12 Noon Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church, Pierpoint, with Rev. Charles "Butch" Acord and Rev. Nyle Fisher, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
