Damon Scarbro, 77, of Rock Creek, WV, died Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV, after a long battle with cancer.
Born February 16, 1940, at Twin Poplars in Boone County. He was the son of the late Alfred Rucker Scarbro and Katie Evelyn Hannah Scarbro.
He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America having worked for Ranger Fuel and Armco/Peabody Montcoal #7 mines. While living in Illinois he worked for Owens Glass. He enjoyed ginsenging, hunting, gardening and he took great pride in his lawn.
Damon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alta Bradford Scarbro; sister, Linda Sue Woolridge; brothers: Kenneth, Gene, Bill and Keith; stepdaughter, Cathy Scarbro; step daughter-in-law, Lisa Lemon Scarbro; step granddaughter, Jennifer Marie Scarbro; and sister-in-law, Barbara Scarbro.
He is survived by step sons Teddy (Aleta) Scarbro and Roger (Teresa) Scarbro both of Rock Creek; brother, Quentin Scarbro of Rock Creek; sister-in-law, Betty Cosgrove of Georgia; step grandchildren: Justin, Aaron, Joey, Melinda, Lorrie and Sheila; several step great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801, in Damon's memory.
Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon, July 17, 2017, at one o'clock in the Scarbro Cemetery, Rock Creek, WV. Clergy Pastor Larry Kinder. Interment Scarbro Cemetery, Rock Creek, WV.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at Damon's home in Rock Creek.
