Darcas's Story

Darcas Wilson Shumate Rose, age 85, of Lanark, WV, passed away in Denver, North Carolina, on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the home of her daughter.
Born on March 26, 1932, at Elgood, WV, she was the daughter of the late Luther Shumate and Hazel Holdren Shumate.
Mrs. Rose was a homemaker, and had made her home in Lanark for 20 years. She enjoyed coloring pictures, cooking, flower gardening, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Rose, a daughter Betty Jane Rose, a grandson Easton Rose, and by six brothers and one sister and also preceded in death by an infant sister.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children: Vickie Justice of Midway, Paula Higginbotham of Glen Jean, Teresa Miller and husband Jim of Denver, NC, Donna Miller and husband Gary of Pemberton, Kathy Allison and husband Joey of Princewick, and a son Paul Rose and wife Syndee of Sophia.
A sister, Elvira McKinney and husband Clyde of Shady Spring, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at 2 PM with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Elgood Cemetery near Athens, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
