Daris Edward Bennett
Born on August 17, 1928 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Luther Bennett and Addie Jones Bennett, and was the step son of Mogene Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a retired coal miner, an active member of UMWA, and President of Local #29. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, where he served as deacon of the church.
Mr. Bennett enjoyed hunting and spending time with his wife and children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amber Meadows; by siblings, Leona Plumley, Aubrey Bennett, Everett Bennett, Benny Bennett and Nila Gaye Canterbury.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include the love of life, his wife of nearly seventy years, Betty Jane Plumley Bennett; his children, Carolyn Sue Arthur of Beckley, Connie Cook and husband, Jeff of Beckley, and Douglas Edward Bennett and wife, Lori of Pinnacle, NC; grandchildren, Jeri Sue Meadows, Brian Meadows, Matthew Arthur and his wife, Stacy, Marsha Stover, Tina Reed and Krystal Yearego and husband, Shawn; great grandchildren, Tiffany Jenkins and husband, Jammie Smith, Tabitha Webster, Justin Reed, Ashton and Isaac Arthur, Brody, Kason, and Raydin Yearego; a great-great grandchild due July 2019, and an honorary grandson, Chuckie Hodges; brothers, Danny Bennett of Abraham, Jerry Bennett and wife, Connie of Abraham, Roger Bennett of PA, Dwight Bennett of Abraham and Jimmy Bennett of Wyoming; sisters, Joyce Hornsby of Pluto, Ruth Ann Watson and husband, Gary of Beckley, Rosa Adkins and husband, Donnie of Glade Springs, Reba Bennett of Beaver, and Ilene Bennett of California.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 2 PM with Rev. John Wesley Richmond, William Plumley and Kerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Plumley Cemetery at Plumley Mountain. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Tina Reed, Brian Meadows, Brian Stover, Shawn Yearego, Timothy Bennett, Chuckie Hodges, Jeff Cook and Lester Plumley Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802 in memory of Daris Bennett.
