Darrell Wayne Grant Sr., 74, of Stanaford, WV, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Grant was born on September 29, 1942, at Henderson, WV. He was preceded in death by his father, Chalmer Grant, his mother, Thelma Call Grant, a sister, Betty McNeil, a great granddaughter, Clara Dawn Metz, a sister-in-law, Audria Grant and a brother-in-law, Jerry Rose.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty-seven and a half years, Carol Martin Grant; children, Priscilla Perry and husband, Fred, of Reading, Pennsylvania, Darrell "Bubby" Wayne Grant, Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Cleveland, Texas, Vickie Covey and husband, Dairen, of Glen Daniel, Gary Grant and wife, Vickie Grant, of Temple, Pennsylvania, Michelle Nunn and husband, James, of Cleveland, Texas, a stepdaughter, Lisa Suggs and husband, James, of Piney View, and a stepson, Leonard Hanks and wife, Autumn, of Piney View; sisters, Janet Rose of Hurricane, WV, Phyllis Kinder and husband, Arnold, of Saint Albans; brothers, William "Buster" Grant of Wise, Virginia, and Johnny Grant of Alum Creek; a brother-in-law, Donald "Donnie" McNeil of Poca, WV; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr Grant retired in 2004 from the Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority after 29 years of service. Mr. Grant loved fishing, hunting, riding four-wheelers and spending time with family and friends. He also served with the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the doctors and staff of CAMC Memorial Division Oncology, but a special thank you to the wonderful nurses and aides who lovingly cared for Mr. Grant this past year.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 8 PM with Rev. Kem Meadows officiating.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. As per Mr. Grant's request, cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Grant's request was that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
