Dessell Patterson Spade Shawver Puckett


Dessell W. Patterson Spade Shawver Puckett, 98, passed peacefully, with her daughters by her side, Saturday, August 4, 2018, to her heavenly home.
Born March 17, 1920, at Springdale, she was the daughter of the late Lightburn (Lighty) and Sarah Cox Patterson. She was the last of the immediate family.
A Christian and member of the Meadow Bridge Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, she enjoyed teaching many children's classes from pre-school through young adults and singing for her Lord in the choir. She later attended Lilly Valley Baptist Church, Rainelle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Lomis Spade, the father of her children, Carl Shawver, and Everette Puckett; her son Harold Eugene Spade; 5 sisters Martha Crowder (DO), Sylvia Gwinn (Elmore), Ethel Spade (Emmette), Mary Jessie Jones (Elbert), and Bonnie Horsfall (Alex); and 6 brothers Lacy, Lawson, John, Jonah, Crandall, and David Patterson.
Survivors include 2 daughters Fern Carr (Frank) of Meadow Bridge and Jeroma Nothstine of Dawson; her daughter-in-law Cecilia Spade of Morgantown; 5 grandchildren Sam Spade of California, Judith Spade (Heath) of New York, Harold Spade of Morgantown, Rebecca Blackwell (Robert) and Denissa Harrah (Alan), all of Ohio; 4 great-grandchildren Christopher and Timothy Blackwell and Ryan and Katelyn Harrah; her sister-in-law Louella Patterson of Meadow Bridge; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.
Alan and Ryan Harrah, Sam and Harold Spade, Frankie Martin, and Bruce Berry will serve as pallbearers. Robert and Tim Blackburn will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Friends may call from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
