Diana's Story

Text size

Diana Pittis passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 after a hard fight against cancer, at her home in Daniels, West Virginia.
She is survived by her longtime partner, Oscar Gramling, mother, Marie-Claire Pittis and her sisters, Milicent Pittis, Patricia Sonnesyn, and Cynthia Bogolub.
Diana is known for her custom stoneware, Raku fired ceramics and sculptures that she displayed at her Pittis Pottery showroom and at Tamarack. Diana loved clay, spending 45 years making functional stoneware and experimenting in different forms of sculpture, glazes and kiln firings.
Through her craft she made friends with many local artists and patrons, who often came by her studio to see her new works, share a glass of wine and a good story.
Diana had a passion for her art and a zest for life. She loved to travel to see new places, as well as visit her close friends and family in Switzerland, New York, and California where she had lived before settling in West Virginia twenty years ago. Her bright smile, sharp wit and joyful spirit will be sorely missed.
Her legacy is well-captured in the MountainMade video on her website http://pittispottery.com/video/
