Dorothy's Story

Dorothy Marie (McVey) Pegram, 84, of Lester, passed away peacefully Sunday. January 14, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House, after a long battle with cancer.
Dorothy was born August 21, 1933, to the late H.H. and Mary L. McVey.
On January 17, 1954, she married her husband Russell L. Pegram, who preceded her in death in April 2017. She was also preceded in death by two brothers Denna and Shelby McVey.
Left to treasure her memory are daughters Sharon Necessary, and Sherry Hatfield and husband Roland Mark. Grandsons Roland Brett Hatfield, Tim Necessary and wife Tiffany, Luke, Michael and Kenneth Necessary. Great-Grandchildren Kaylee and Shailyn Necessary and Tyler and Sierra Cohrn. She is also survived by her sister Dreama (Richard) Rhodes. Special family members Amanda Epling, Virginia McVey, and Loretta Shrewsbury along with several Nieces, Nephews, cousins, and friends will also miss Dorothy greatly.
Dorothy worked as a reporter and photographer for many years at Beckley Newspapers. Later she became a Cook and Cafeteria Manager at Lester Elementary School for 27 years. After retiring she continued to substitute cook for many more years. She and Russell also enjoyed working together at Winterplace Ski Resort and the West Virginia State Fair. She also enjoyed traveling. Their river camp in Hinton, Pigeon Forge, TN and the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia were a few of her favorite places to visit.
Services for Dorothy will be on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, WV, with Reverend Roland Mark Hatfield and Ron Mills officiating. Visitation from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral will follow at 1:00 pm. Graveside service will be immediately after in the mausoleum.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House.
The Family would especially like to thank the wonderful nursing staff at Bowers Hospice House for the kindness and compassion they showed Dorothy during her stay there
