Douglas Wayne "Doug" Harper, age 63, of Beckley, WV, left this world to continue his next journey on Monday, January 22, 2018, following a bravely fought two year battle with cancer.
Born on November 12, 1954, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Oliver C. Harper Jr. and Shirley F. Hawks Harper.
Doug was a West Virginia singer/song writer, and owner of Harper Ventures. He was strong in his faith, and enjoyed music, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of nearly 37 years, Shelley Huckins Harper; his children, Erin Michele Harper Kesner and husband Nathaniel of Lewisburg, and Douglas Oliver Harper of Beckley. A sister, Judy Harper Thomas and husband Hayes of Fort Mill, SC. The light of his life, his wonderful grandchildren, Alexander James Kesner, and Ethan Wayne Kesner. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Old Soldiers Memorial Building, 200 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV, on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 6:30 PM with Mr. Mark Spangler officiating. There will be no visitation. As Doug would have wanted, please attend in casual attire.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern WV, P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802, the American Federation of Musicians Local 674, 133 Park Place, Lewisburg, WV 24901, or the WV Winter Music Festival, in memory of Doug Harper.
