Franklin McCulloch Gates, 91, of Orlando, FL, passed away on July 9, 2017 of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
He was born January 20, 1926 in Charleston, WV, but grew up in Huntington, WV. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1943. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and served as a submariner. At the end of World War II, he was discharged and entered West Virginia University. He was a member of Beta Theta Phi fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in January, 1950.
After graduation, he worked as a Credit Manager for National Mine Service Company in Beckley, WV, where he met and married Betty Jo Stover. They moved to Florida in 1954 and he became involved in the sales of heavy construction and earthmoving equipment. In 1965, he founded and was President of Southern Crane Rentals, Inc. in Orlando, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Don, daughter-in-law, Glaudia; daughter, Cindy, son-in-law, Charlie Stone; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Jessica Stone; a half-brother, Joseph Gates and his wife, Peggy.
His mother, Mary McCulloch Gates, father, Franklin S. Gates, and brother, Dan H. Gates predeceased Mr. Gates.
Visitation will be at 1pm and the service at 2pm on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Gotha, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
