Frederick Jay Bonham, 90, returned to his heavenly home on June 27, 2017.
Fred was born on March 27, 1927 to the late Bertie Puckett Bonham and Frederick J. Bonham of Glen Daniel, WV.
Fred is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Frederick Lee and Sandra Bonham of Fayetteville, WV; his granddaughter, Amber Bonham Carr and Christopher Michael Carr of Manassas, VA and granddaughter, Brianne Bonham Kunkel and John Robert Kunkel of Smyrna, GA; and his great grandchildren, Cooper Michael Carr and Harper Leigh Carr.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Painter Bonham; his sisters, Kathlene Bonham Davis and Thelma Bonham Brooks; and son, Frederick J. Bonham Jr.
Fred was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and resided at their family home on Harper Road in Beckley for many years. Since 1983, he and Betty have been a part of the North Sand Branch community.
Fred retired after 39 years as an employee of American Electric Power and prior to his career at AEP, Fred served in the U.S. Army circa in 1945. Fred is an ardent active member of New Prospect Baptist Church and was previously a long standing member of Coal Marsh Missionary Baptist Church.
Fred was an avid snow-skier and enjoyed teaching and skiing with his granddaughters for many years.
A "Service of Remembrance" will be Saturday, July 1 at 2 pm in the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Pastor Gary Williams will be officiating. Fred will be laid to rest beside his beloved Betty at the Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 6 to 8 pm at the mortuary and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
