Harold's Story

Harold Carl Berry, 86, of Danese, went to his eternal home Sunday, August 27, 2017 in the VA Medical Center, Beckley, following a long illness.
Born August 17, 1931, at Meadow Creek, he was the son of the late Terry and Grace Rouse Berry.
Harold was retired from the America National Can Company. He was a proud US Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Harold enjoyed collecting coins, hiking, fishing, hunting and serving the Lord. He was a member of the Chestnut Knob Baptist Church at Layland.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepdaughter Sally Ann Kincaid and three brothers Carl, Joe, and Charles Berry.
Survivors include his loving wife Virginia (Sally) Wall Berry; 1 son Harold C. Berry II (Jean) of Parkersburg; 1 daughter Beatrice (Polly) Gibson of Danese; 5 stepsons James A. Crowe Jr. of Danese, David W. Crowe, R. Alan Crowe (Jeanette) Melvin W. Crowe (Lisa), and Michael L. Crowe (GemiLou), all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; 1 brother Paul Berry of Mt. Hope; 2 sisters Norma Crumley and Brenda Adkins (John), all of Beckley; 16 step grandchildren; 27 step great-grandchildren; and 1 step great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 31, in the Chestnut Knob Baptist Church with Pastor Lloyd Bolen officiating. Burial will be in the Crowe Family Cemetery at Danese.
Friends may call Wednesday, August 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Smathers Funeral Chapel and one hour before the service from 1 - 2 p.m. at the church.
