James Ray Adkins, 48, of Sycamore Hollow, WV, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 23, 2017.
He was born December 21, 1968, in Beckley, WV. The youngest son of Thomas William Adkins and Gloria Jean Weeks Adkins of Sycamore.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Hubert and Dolly Adkins and maternal grandparents, Jessie and Mable "Granny Boo" Weeks, mother-in-law, Della "Cappy" Compton who probably greeted him at the gate.
In addition to his parents, those left to cherish his memory include a loving wife of 25 years, Wilma Lee Adkins; a son, Jacob Ryan Adkins "Bub" and a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Adkins "Sis: all of Sycamore; a sister, Pamela Sue and Wayne Browning of Princewick; a brother, Thomas William Jr. "Brother" and April Adkins of Clear Creek; father-in-law, William C. Compton Sr. "Pop paw Bill" of Sycamore; a sister-in-law, Helen Jean McQuillan and a brother-in-law, William C. Compton Jr. "Billy" both of Charleston, WV, an uncle, many aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews, he loved dearly.
He was a Christian not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He attended church at Sycamore Pentecostal Church of God "Holy Ghost Headquarters" where he was the Sunday School superintendant. He loved the outdoors, In his own words,"Besides church, Jake, Sarah, Wilma, I like hunting and fishing. He never failed to give God glory and praise for all his blessings.
He was a 1987 graduate of Clear Fork High School. He had been employed as a coal miner for 21 years.
James preached his own funeral while he was alive, but you may join us for a celebration of his life on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 2:00pm in his home church of Sycamore Free Pentecostal Church Sycamore, WV, with Pastor Jerry Tyree officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.
Pallbearers will be Corey Collins, Keith Cottrell, Kevin Keith, Chris Stevens, Zach Walker and Seth Wimbish.
Ecc: 7-1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
