James's Story

James ("J.J." "Jack") Jackson Smith, of Hico, WV, passed away December 16, 2017, from a short illness. He was born June 20, 1932, in Landisburg, WV, to the late John Smith and Maxie Shaver Smith.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Jean (Beverley) Smith; brothers Morton Smith and John H. Smith; and sisters, Therma Mae Zickafoose; Delphia Gwinn; Reba Duncan; and Virginia Gragg.
He graduated from Rainelle High School, Rainelle, WV. He was employed as a Deputy Sheriff with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department where he retired and later became Chief of Police, Fayetteville, WV. He was a 50 year member of the Hayden Masonic Lodge #113, AF&AM of Ansted, WV.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly J. and David O. Moye,of Ona, WV; grandson, Hunter James Shockey; step-grandchildren Adam, Austin, Logan, Gabrielle, and Isabelle Moye; brother William O. Smith, Phoenix, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 P.M. Thursday, December 21 at the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum, with Pastor Rodney Moye officiating. Masonic graveside rights and entombment to follow.
Friends and family may call Wednesday, December 20, 6-8 p.m. at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, WV.
Honorary pallbearers are David Moye, Hunter Shockey, Austin Moye, Larry Beverley Jr., Michael Beckner, and Darrell Zickafoose.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801 or Hospice of Huntington, 1101 6th Ave., Huntington, WV 25701.
