James Edward Snuffer, 88, of Maiden, NC, formerly of Rainelle, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, August 4, 2018, following a long illness.
Born July 31, 1930, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Oliver and Lula Martin Snuffer.
James was a combat wounded, Purple Heart recipient from the battle of the Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War.
He was a welder at Marathon Coal Bit Company, Smithers before becoming a cleaning plant operator for Lackie Smokeless Coal Company in Rupert, from where he retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Crane Snuffer; 2 daughters, Kathy Morton Willis and Nancy Morton Hypes; 1 grandson Jason Morton; 1 sister, Geneva; and 2 brothers, Clifford and Johnny;.
Survivors include 4 sons John (Kathy) Morton, Groveport, Ohio, Rick (Debbie) Morton, Princeton, Jimmy (Tracie) Snuffer, Mount Holly, NC, and Michael (Robin) Snuffer, Maiden, NC; 1 sister-in-law Elizabeth Cardoza, Lindside; a dear friend, Rose Amick, Victor; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Ansted, with Pastor Danny Legg officiating.
Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 - 2 p.m. at the chapel.
