The beloved, open arms of the Coughenour family has left her earthly home.
Janice Marie Coughenour (Yancey) of Hinton, WV, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, after a heart attack early that morning. She was 77.
Janice was born on February 2, 1940 in Stephenson, WV to the late John and Hilda Yancey. She was a lifelong resident of Hinton, WV.
Janice was always smiling; she laughed easily and loved fiercely. She had seven children, so it was not uncommon for her to be seen around town with a baby on her hip and a few stragglers in tow. At home, she could often be found dancing in her kitchen, singing hymns and Patsy Cline, or enjoying her front porch with some sweet iced tea. Wherever Janice was, there was always an open door and a listening ear. She loved her family almost as much as she loved Jesus, and she leaves behind a legacy of loving without judgment, of putting others before oneself, and of having gratitude in all circumstances.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, John and Hilda Yancey; her brothers and sisters, Jack Yancey, Ed Yancey, Kellan Phipps, and Rinda Shannon; and, most recently, by her son, Chris Coughenour.
Her surviving family members are numerous and include: Husband: Dean Coughenour; Sister: Rebecca Ray. Six children and their partners: Ricky Clinebell; Becca Blackmon and Jeff Brehm; Mary Pat and Eugene Jones; Susan Coughenour Lowe; Kelly and Mike Harvey; and Colleen and Brian Watson. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Missy Clinebell, Quito Clinebell, Gage Lowe, Starr Lowe, Hannah Blackmon, Luke Jones, Joshua Maddy, Savannah Lowe, Tucker Lowe, Kaela Coughenour, Brady Coughenour, Asher Coughenour, Grace Harvey, Noah Harvey, Anna Watson, and Nora Watson.
The family will welcome friends on Saturday, November 11, at Central Baptist Church from 1 to 2pm. Services to follow, with Pastor Robbie Merritt will be officiating.
