Jerry Rodney Dunbar, age 46, of Clear Creek, WV, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short battle with cancer.
Born on May 5, 1971, in Beckley, he was the son of Shelbia "Tibby" Bacon Dunbar of Clear Creek and the late Jerry Dunbar.
Mr. Dunbar was an employee of the Raleigh County Board of Education where he was a school bus driver for many years. He loved all of the school children he had transported over the years. He was a member of Workman's Creek Methodist Church, and was a lifelong resident of Clear Creek. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music, hunting, and fishing in his spare time.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jerry David Dunbar.
Other than his mother, "Tibby" Dunbar, he is survived by his son, Jerry Lee Dunbar of Clear Creek, a brother, MG. Retired, William Dwayne Dunbar and his wife Ann of Black Forest, Colorado, A sister Melissa Toney and husband Deron of Clear Creek.
Nieces and nephews, Jerry David Toney and wife Ashley, and great niece Alivia, Joshua Toney and wife McKenna, Holleigh Toney, Andrew Dunbar and wife Amber, and great niece Ariel, Sarah Dunbar, and great nephew Ezekiel, Isiah Dunbar, Natasha Dunbar, and Kendall and Kalli Stewart.
An uncle, Oran Bacon and wife Jacqueleen, aunts, Rita Palmer, Jean Williams, Easter Hodge, Alba Hodge, and Phyllis Burgess.
His bluegrass playing friends, Brian and Jason Taylor, Edmond Massey, Dwayne Lawrence, Brian Wheeler, Paul Maynor, Daniel and Mark Lilly, Duke Stewart and Caleb Pandelios, and Charles Withrow, and also a special friend Greg Brock.
Funeral services will be conducted at Workman's Creek Methodist Church on Monday, August 7, 2017, at 2 PM with Rev. Gerald Kincaid, Rev. Jerry Lawrence, and Rev. Arlotte Stover officiating. Burial will follow at Dunbar Family Cemetery at McDowell Hollow. Friends may visit with the family from 5 PM until 9 PM on Sunday at the church. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
