Joel "Jody" Green Whisman, 59, of Rupert, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born October 8, 1957, in Rainelle, he was the son of the late Hershel and Margaret Fleshman Whisman.
Jody was a prosthetic technician. He attended Sewell Valley Baptist Church. Jody enjoyed fishing and loving on his grandchildren. He was known as "Mr. Fix-it" because he was always working on something.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Ellen Forren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Kathy Dixon Whisman; 1 son Christopher Whisman and wife Amber of Boones Mill, Virginia; 2 daughters Angela Phillips and husband Larry of Bozeman, Montana and Annie Martin of Rainelle; 3 brothers Mike Whisman and wife Myrna of Oak Hill, Hershel "Jake" Whisman and wife Candace of Rainelle, and Gene "Fritz" Whisman and wife Janet of Grassy Meadows; 5 grandchildren Steven Phillips, Maddie and Zoe Duggan, and Wesley and Baby Whisman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be 11 am Monday, June 19, in the Sewell Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Fred Fryar officiating.
Friends may call one hour before the service from 10 - 11 am at the church.
