John Edward Richmond, 91, of 417 5th Ave., Hinton, died Sunday, August 13, 2017, in Summers County A.R.H. Hospital following a short illness.
Born February 22, 1926, in Hinton, he was the son of the late Stuart and Clara Kincade Richmond.
Mr. Richmond was a retired engineer for the C&O Railway Company in Hinton with 42 years of service. He was a member of the "Greatest Generation" serving his country in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinton, a charter member of the Hinton Lions Club and enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. John enjoyed his dogs and cats and will be missed by his entire family.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Richmond, along with three brothers, James, Carl and Stuart, Jr., Richmond, and two sisters, Clara Neely and Alta Richmond.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Lorna Peterson Richmond. Two sons, John M. Richmond (Rita) of Glen Dale, WV, and Gerald L. Richmond (Lottie) of Princeton, WV. One daughter, Beverly J. Thompson (Greg) of Roanoke, VA. Six grandchildren, Heather Zambito, Jaime Blake, Sara Howard, Jillian Tieman, Alex Thompson and Zachery Thompson. Eleven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Hinton with Pastors Jeff Canterbury and Ronald Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class at First Baptist Church and David Eskridge and Melvin Plumley.
