Junior's Story

Elder Junior Bryce Phillips, 96, of Saulsville, WV, departed this life on March 4, 2018 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Milburn & Carolyn Rinehart.
He was born at Pierpoint, WV on Feb 10, 1922, the first-born son of the late Lacy & Susie Tolliver Phillips.
On Oct 24, 1942 Bryce was married to Pauline Dixon, daughter of the late William & Della Dixon, a union that lasted 68 years until her passing on Dec 31, 2010. In addition to his beloved wife and parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, James Harold, Hersie, Thomas Glen (Audrey), Lacy Marvin, and Paul Ivan; a daughter-in-law Linda Morgan Phillips and a brother-in-law Sidney Dixon.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughter Carolyn (Milburn) Rinehart of Saulsville, WV; 4 sons, Jack (Shirley) Phillips of Palm Springs, CA; Jimmy Phillips and fiancé Harmony Monk of Gainesville, Fl; Roger (Vickie) Phillips of Ghent, WV and Lt. Colonel (Ret) Randall (Rebecca) Phillips, Of El Dorado, KS; one brother, Roger Darrell ( Margaret) Phillips of Liverpool, NY; one sister, Geneva Dixon of Saulsville, WV; 12 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews.
In 1985 Bryce retired after working 44 years in mining related industries; the last job with Phillips Machine Service as purchasing agent. He served 19 years as board member of the Ravencliff, McGraws, Saulsville PSD. He was a farmer, cattleman and beekeeper.
He was ordained to preach the gospel in 1969 and his greatest passion was serving as minister in four old Regular Baptist Churches. He served a number of years as moderator of the Friendship Church of Old Regular Baptists at Saulsville, WV. A scripture often quoted by Bryce was Jeremiah 6:16; "Thus saith the Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls".
Services will be Monday, March 12, 2018 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Elder Gene Green & Dr. John Rinehart officiating. Visitation for the public will be from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens where Bryce will be laid to rest. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.
