Laura Evelyn Taylor Jackson, age 83, of Maple Fork, WV, departed this earth and entered into eternal life on Friday, June 16, 2017.
The phrase most used to describe Evelyn was "one of a kind." So many people over the years have said that she never knew a stranger. Her heart was as big as they come and you could not go to her house without her feeding you.
Evelyn was a school teacher, having taught in a one room school house in Brumley Gap, Virginia. She later married the love of her life, Nixon, after writing letters back and forth while he was serving in the US Army in Germany. Their love affair continued for 63 years. Evelyn and Nixon traveled throughout several states with his job, but eventually settled on Maple Fork and raised their family.
Evelyn was many things in this life, but she was most proud of being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a woman of great faith and enjoyed sharing her love for our Lord with her family and friends.
Evelyn was known as "Granny" and loved each and every one of these kids just like they were her own family.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Roby and Flora Woods Taylor; and her beloved son Steven.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Nixon; her daughter Kathy Hawkins and husband Jeff of Maple Fork; her only granddaughter Jennifer O'Dell also of Maple Fork; a sister Charlotte Vermillion and husband Wayne of Lebanon, Virginia, along with their daughter her "special niece" Patti Gaughan and her family. She had a host of nieces and nephews, too numerous to count that she loved dearly.
Although our hearts are broken, we find solace in knowing she is reunited with her son Steven.
