Mark Wayne Bortell
Mark Wayne Bortell, age 64, of MacArthur, WV, passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Monday, October 21, 2019.
Born on September 8, 1955 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late John Bortell and Violet Ramsdale Bortell.
Mark was a former railroad employee in Illinois, was a former auto salesman, and owned and operated Medic Alert Ambulance Service in Beckley. He was a paramedic for 20 years, a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Illinois. Mark was a certified instructor for EMS, and had taught various classes for several years. His last years of employment was as a construction foreman and pipefitter.
He enjoyed scuba diving, loved NASCAR, and was an avid football fan, of which his favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and the West Virginia University Mountaineers. Mark was of the Church of Christ faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Remington Colt Bortell in 2002, and by his father-in-law, James White Walker.
Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Mary Walker Bortell; a son Rock Royce Bortell and wife Wendi of Cool Ridge; two granddaughters, Remmy Marie and Resa Anthem Bortell; his siblings: Tom Bortell and wife Jill of Vienna, WV, Shirley Bortell of Wisconsin, Barbara Bortell of New Hampshire, Denise Wilkening and husband Dan of Illinois, and Harold Bortell and wife Sue of Crystal Lake, Illinois; his mother-in-law, Anthem Aretta Walker of MacArthur, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service to Celebrate the Life of Mark Wayne Bortell will be held at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Friday, October 25, 2019 at 7 PM with Rev. Dave Morris, Chaplain Michael Weaver, and Rev. Billy Pate. Friends may visit with the family from 5 PM until service time on Friday at the funeral home. As per Mark's person wishes, cremation will follow.
