I graduated with Mark, we had classes together and rode the bus together. We talked occasionally, but we really became bus buddies when he decided he wanted to run track. One day on the bus I noticed he got off in Hidden Valley instead of his usual stop. Later, the next day, I found out why. We were both chubsters in school and I still am. Mark told me he had decided he wanted to run track and had to lose weight to do it. That started his love (as I know it) for his athletic life. It started in early spring, he would get off the bus in Hidden Valley and run up a hill until he was tired and then walk the rest of the way home. Every day we would talk about how it was going and how it was easier for him to do. School ended, but when we came back in the fall, his chubby days were gone. He always told me in his arrogant way, lol (that never bothered me) I should start running. I had not spoke with Mark since High school, but my family remembered me telling this story when I heard the news of his passing. This is how Mark touched my life and he will be missed.Read more

Mr Lilly was my Chemistry teacher at Van Jr/Sr High School. He always made us laugh and he made learning Chemistry fun. I thought his class was so hard! Once I got to college, Chemistry was a breeze, all because of Mr. Lilly. The professor couldn’t believe how advanced the kids from Van were and he asked who our teacher had been! I was so thankful that he saw our potential and appropriately prepared us for college. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Lilly was one of my favorite teachers at Van High School. I loved his sense of humor. He was always there when you needed him. I recently tried finding him to thank him for all the times he helped me..even in classes that he didn’t teach. Unfortunately I was never able to track him down. Rest In Peace, Mr. Lilly. You will never be forgotten. Van High School, Class of 2001

Hugs and prayers for family and friends of Mr Lilly. I got to know him three years ago when I came to work at OHHS. He was a friendly face to a new employee and always had a kind and encouraging word. As time went we talked more and last year he would visit our classroom on AIT days and we would all laugh and share stories. He shared many tales of his bike adventures and it was a passion of his. If we had to lose him, at least he was enjoying himself.
