Norma Jean (Mankin) Phillips, age 82, of Fairhope, AL, previously of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, August, 23, 2017.
Born January 2, 1935 in Beckley, WV she was the daughter of Clyde G. Mankin and Gladys Higginbotham.
Jean, as everyone knew her, was a graduate of Saint Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, WV and was a R.N. prior to starting her family. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope, a board member for the Baldwin Senior Travelers and on the board of E.S.I.L.L.; Eastern Shore Institute for Lifelong Learning. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed gardening ("weed pulling"), sewing, cooking, reading and traveling.
In addition to her parents, Jean was proceeded in death by her brother, Thomas Woodrow Mankin.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Harry L. Phillips Jr., five children, Bruce Alan and wife Kim of Denver, NC, Brian Scot and wife Britt of Sherborn, MA, Jean Suzanne Palmer and husband Jim of Summerfield, NC, Jennifer Lynn and fiancée Brian Hughes of Harrisburg, PA and Mark Jonathan and wife Sara of Westfield, IN. In addition Jean leaves behind eleven beautiful grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 S. Mobile St., Fairhope, AL 36532 with Reverend Matt McCollum officiating. The family welcomes all to join us in Trinity Hall following the service for a reception. Jean's final resting place will be on her family's 5th generation farm in WV.
In lieu of flowers donations may be offered to Community Hospice of Baldwin County or to your favorite charity.
