Paul H. Loflin Dr. Paul H. Loflin, 94, of Beckley passed away January 19, 2019. He was born in 1924 in Mabscott, West Virginia, to the late Emmett Hurl and Goldie Stewart Loflin.
Paul married Mabel Levering Royar on August 5, 1950, in Oakland, California. They have four children, JoAnne (John) Gilchrist, Murrey (Maureen) Loflin, Paul (Jennifer) Loflin, Jr., and Sarah (Tom) Borcherding.
There are eight grandchildren: Ensley Henderson (Patrick), Jack Gilchrist, Reilly Loflin, Haley Loflin, Trevor Loflin, Paige, Grace and Sarah Jane Borcherding. There is one great grandchild, Emelia Henderson.
Paul is predeceased by his parents and an infant brother, Charles Edward Loflin.
Paul was a 1942 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He attended Marshall University and then graduated from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Dental School, University of Maryland, in 1948.
He served in the United States Navy Dental Corps from 1948 to 1950 when he returned to Beckley and began his private dental practice. Aside from being recalled to active duty during the Korean War, he practiced dentistry in Beckley until his retirement in 1998.
Paul was active in many professional dental associations especially the International College of Dentists and Academy of Operative Dentistry, where he held top leadership positions. In addition, he was committed to his community and contributed greatly to St. Stephens Episcopal Church and Beckley Rotary Club. He was also on the Beckley-Raleigh County Board of Health upon which he served for 50 years including many terms as Chairman. He served three terms as a Beckley City Councilman Ward III.
Paul was a devoted husband and father. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer, a military history buff and a painter of military miniatures.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11 am at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Beckley, WV. Full obituary may be found at as well as online condolences.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Paul's caregiver, Chris Dancy and the nurses and aides at the Inn at Greystone.
