Raymond Lewis 'Red' Pannell
He was preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Marlene Pannell; his children, Raymond Pannell, Timothy Pannell, Michael Pannell; siblings, Leroy Pannell, Kelly Pannell Jr., Mary Watson, Roberta Bayne and James (Joker) Pannell; sister-in-law, Ann Pannell.
Raymond received Christ and was baptized at a very young age. He attended New Hope Baptist Church, where he loved his Pastor and church family.
'Red' as he was often called by his family and friends, was a trustee at New Convention Center. He attended Raleigh County schools in which he graduated with honors. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. After serving 21 years for his country, Raymond would retire as an electronic engineer. After his return home, he would work for the United States Postal Service for 12 years.
He began his second retirement. Raymond goes on to obtain his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Beckley College and was also a mail sorter/Post Master.
"Red" had a special kind of love for his family. He would always offer his home to anyone asking, also something to eat or drink, playing his music and watching the grandkids dance was his joy. He lived life to the fullest, just a simple man with a big heart. He loved spending time with his brother, Norman, his best friend, travel partner and confidant.
Left to cherish his precious memories, the love of his life, (Gene Gene) as he would call her, his wife of 17 years, Regina Mae Manns Pannell; one daughter, Modern (Puddin) Wilson of Roxbury, MA, stepsons, Freddie Manns of Atlanta, Ga., Harold (Judy) Manns of Beckley; stepdaughters, Denise Hill of Nashville, TN, Dorothy (Red) Manns and Diane (Nae) Manns Carson (Sheik), both of Beckley; two brothers, Norman Pannell of Beckley and Walter Pannell (Phyllis) of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Annette Poindexter (Rudolph), Rev. of Beckley; one living aunt, Sally Covington of Atlanta, GA; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
Services will be 12 noon Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at New Hope Baptist Church, 304 Worley Road, Beckley, with the Revs. Nathaniel Carey, Walter E. Clay, Rudolph Poindexter and Minister William Pannell officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV.
