Richard's Story

Text size

Richard Ryen "Rich" Smith peacefully passed through the gates of heaven on November 26, 2017 to join his mother Patsy Ann Smith, brother, William "Bill" Smith and brothers-in-law Chris Humphrey and Brian Poole.
Left to cherish his memory is his lovingly devoted wife of 11 years, Jennifer Smith and the four children whom he loved with all his heart; Mariah Ann Smith 11, Lukas Athen Smith 8, Hailey Jane Smith 7, and Presley Ryen Smith 6 months. Richard has also left behind a mother-in-law Angela Humphrey and father-in-law Larry Humphrey, who stayed by his side until the end. He had two sisters-in-law that he cherished, Tonya Humphrey and Alisha Humphrey. His six nieces and nephews Aidan, Mieke, Keelan, Eli, Coraline and Lucian will forever look up to their Uncle Ritchie. Richard's father Paul Waldron is also left to help love his children. They had only known each other for a short time, but it was one of the greatest miracles in Richard's life. Rich had also connected with four half-brothers Travis, John, Steve and Kenny.
Richard had recently gotten the job he had always wanted as a mechanic at John Howerton Honda which made him feel proud and accomplished.
Formerly of Vineland, NJ, Richard has left behind many family and friends there as well as here at home. His cousin and best friend Darrell Boyd being here lately made him incredibly happy.
Richard had a rough start in life but worked hard to get everything he wanted in life; a wife, children, home, truck and job. He was a good man who loved unconditionally and was raising his kids to be kind, loving, smart people. He was kind to everyone even if he didn't know you and went above and beyond for all those he loved. Richard loved his dogs, Molly, his constant companion and foot warmer and Tizzy his buddy and guard dog, who will both grieve along with his family.
Richard's wife is quoted "I will forever hold Richard's memory in my heart. He was my Jersey Prince and he saved me in every way possible. His sense of humor and compassion will live on through his children. To me he was simply my babe and he always will be."
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 29, at 1pm followed by the funeral service at 2pm at High Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens.
