FAYETTEVILLE - Rodney Arnold Myers, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019, after just an overnight stay at Bowers Hospice House with his family by his side.
Born on September 15, 1935, in Fayetteville, WV, he was the elder son of the late Harry Arnold Myers and Gladys Settle Myers Epperly.
Rodney graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1954, and thoroughly enjoyed his years in the band, where he was the only French horn player. He won the Arion Music Award, was offered a scholarship to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and was drum major his junior and senior years. At graduation, he was asked to perform Ave Maria as a French horn solo. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force.
Rodney attended WV Institute of Technology for two years, was a former member of Fayette Fine Arts Council, had served on Town Council, and on board of directors of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.
He served on Huse Memorial Park Commission and was co-chairman of The Lafayette Huse Veterans Memorial.
Rodney was a member of Fayetteville Baptist Church since 1953 making him the longest standing member. While still in high school, he was custodian at the church, and over the years, had served on several boards and committees, as well as, serving on Advisory Council, as an usher, moderator, president of Collawn Sunday School Class, and chairman of the Deacon Board.
On September 18, 2011, he was installed as Deacon Emeritus at FBC. He also enjoyed singing in the choir, and he was a member of Fayetteville Community Chorus since it formed in 1987.
He was a 35-year member and past president of Fayetteville Rotary Club where he was treasurer for over 17 years, and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Rodney enjoyed an early career in sales, eventually working for Appalachian Heating; American Electric Power as purchasing agent and stores supervisor for both Central Appalachian and Southern Appalachian Coal Company; and then at Boso & Myers, Inc., as president of the heating and cooling business, where he retired in April 1999.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen, on July 4, 2001.
Left to cherish his memory, are his loving and devoted wife of almost 57 years, Linda; daughter, Karen (Mason) Basham, of Canvas, WV; granddaughter, Kristen Basham of Arlington, VA; sister, Patricia (Larry) Pridemore of Evans GA; brother, Clarence (Mary) Myers, of Augusta, GA; half-brother, Robert L. (Erma) Epperly Jr. of Bolt, WV; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Fayetteville Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with Pastor Ron George Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 6-8 pm at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to FBC Scholarship Fund, 104 Ankrom Street, Fayetteville, WV 25840; or to The Lafayette Huse Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 298, Fayetteville, WV 25840.
Rotary members will serve as pallbearers.
