Shelby Jean Thompson, 71, of Caldwell Street, Athens died peacefully Thursday, June 21, 2018 surrounded by her family at her residence.
Born October 28, 1946 in Hinton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lakie Joe and Geraldine Richmond Thompson.
Shelby was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend who loved her family. She attended and supported the Princeton Church of God for over 40 years where she served in the past as Sunday School Attendant Clerk. Shelby loved decorating, flowers, gardening, traveling and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
She was the owner/operator of Shelby's Beauty Shop with over 50 year's service as a hairdresser. Her career started with Teresa Inge, then Thelma Harvey and retired from the Hair Station.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twin brothers, Joe and Jim Thompson.
She is survived by two loving sisters, Mary Jo Mays and husband Butch of Athens,
Deborah Mathena of Athens;
One loving brother, Michael Dean Thompson and wife Linda of Princeton;
Special nieces and nephews, Samuel Mathena, Heather Pollard and husband Donald, J. P. Mays and wife Jennie, Mark Mays and wife Anna, Stephen Mays and wife Lori, Harold K. Stone, Dwight Wayne Stone and Michael William Stone;
Also, several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Shelby Jean Thompson will be held 3:00 P.M., Sunday, June 24, 2018, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor J.P. Mays and Pastor Stanley Metz officiating. Burial will follow on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Beckley. Her family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.memorialfd.com.
Those attending the committal service on Tuesday are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:00 A.M. The Thompson family is being served by the Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
