Theodore's Story

Theodore Harold Almond, "Ted", of Cool Ridge passed away on August 10, 2017.
Born on November 16, 1936, in Lego, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Levi and Jennie Almond.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty Jean Almond.
Known for his big blue eyes, his contagious smile, and a personality that touched the hearts of many, Ted was a big West Virginia University Football and NASCAR fan. He served in the United States Air Force and WV Army National Guard. He retired from the Beckley Post Office. Before going into full retirement, Ted also worked at Newport Glass and WV Glass.
Ted met and married "My Betty" as he referred to her in November, 1959. Married for over 56 years, their immediate family grew to over 40 members. Having lived in Rhodell, Blacksburg, Virginia, and MacArthur before moving to Cool Ridge, he was a wonderful, supportive father to five children: Jimmy and wife, Bonnie, Theodore Jr. "Binky" and wife, Verinda, Jeri Rene' and husband, Michael, Tom and wife, Dena, and Franklin and wife, Susan. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Christy and husband, Jerry, Sheri and husband, David, Cam and wife, Melissa, Alexis, Alayna and husband, Josh, Matthew and wife, Adrienne, Zara and husband, Brandon, Chad and wife, Noelle, Katie, Josiah, Emily, Keyra, William, Olivia and Adan. Great-grandchildren: Cody R., John and fiancée, Kelsey, K'Lee, Zach C., Cody S., Zach S., Hailey, Cass, Hannah, Connor, Emmalyn, Creed, Jackson, Asher, Dylan, and baby Carolynn due in January. Great-great-grandchild: Peyton.
Ted not only had a large family of his own, he was a member of a large extended one. He was one of 14 siblings. Four sisters and six brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by brothers: Donny and wife, Kitty, Mickey and wife, Loretha; sister: Carol and husband, Dicky; He is also survived by brother-in-law Frank and wife, Elva; and sister-in-law: Linda and husband, Brown; Sisters-in-law: Freda, Arna Mae, Geraldine, Carol Ann, Vera and Gaye. Brothers-in-law: Leon and Dallas; surviving Ted are also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley, WV on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11 AM with Mr. Tim Wise and Rev. John Almond officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
