Vanice's Story

Text size

Vanice Akers, 79, passed away quietly and peacefully Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at her home in Westchester, Illinois, after a long illness.
Born in Sophia, West Virginia, a 1955 graduate of Sophia High School, she moved to Illinois shortly after graduation and continued to live there until her death. She steadfastly remained dedicated to Sophia and West Virginia as home and returned to visit family and friends as often as possible. She loved to attend the All School Reunions and getting together with her classmates and laughingly remembering the good times of her youth.
She was an avid bridge player in senior bridge clubs and a constant reader. Not only was she beautiful on the outside but even more so she had a gentle and loving spirit and was kind to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her sparkling personality and smile, her love of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobart and Amanda Akers and her sister, Janice Gilmore. She is survived by her daughter, Natalie Reyes Coudreau (Frederic) of Paris, France and a host of loving friends and family members especially her Aunt Iris and cousin Sharon Davis with whom she laughed, cried, cheered and simply always had a memorable and fun filled time during her visits with them.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held on August 16th, 2017 from 11am-1pm followed by a bridge game in her honor at: WESTERN SPRINGS SENIOR CENTER, The Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Avenue, Western Springs, IL 60558.
