Viola Kathryn Barry, 90, of Eccles, WV, passed away September 7, 2017. Born May 16, 1927, in Standard, WV, Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Arlie and Lenora Milam, first husband, Julius Braskey, and the love of her life, husband John Joseph Barry, siblings Arlie Jr., Billy Joe, and Marvin Milam, and Joyce Beasley, and granddaughter Tracy Wilson. Viola was a dedicated homemaker, and loving mother who faithfully served the Lord at the Eccles First Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memory are children Steven Braskey and wife Sharon of Eccles, Jerry Braskey and wife Sandy of Daniels, Julia Manning and husband Russell of Surveyor, Kathryn Cook and husband Nelson of Eccles, Cheryl Lewis and late husband Louis Lewis of Shady Spring and Dr. Joyce Barry and life partner Dr. Anne Lacsamana of Clinton, NY. She is also survived by siblings Marie Meffley of Lima, OH, Betty Pomeroy and Pat Gonzalez of San Antonio, TX.
In addition to being actively involved in her children's school activities, Viola was a passionate fan of college and pro basketball, and particularly enjoyed cheering for her favorite team, the San Antonio Spurs.
Viola is survived by grandchildren Steven Braskey, Lisa Pennypacker, Mark Braskey, Lynn McClain, Lisa Austen, Sherri Ellis, Matthew Stover, Andria Hamilton, Joey Barry, and Elliott Lewis; great grandchildren Shawn and Aubrey Pennypacker, Elizabeth Braskey, Tyler Underwood, Aaron Clemens, Zachary Bolon, Kadin, Kolby, Koen and Kristian Ellis, Kori, Ian, Lily and Ava Stover, Courtney, Kyle, Hannah, Hallie and Hayden Hamilton, Zachary Wilson and Kierston Toler, and Jayla Barry; and great great grandchildren, Isabella Braskey, Madelyn Clemens, Coalson and Brantley Miller.
The family wishes to thank the gracious and committed staff at Harper Mills, who took care of Viola with tenderness and compassion for over two years.
Friends may gather to celebrate Viola's life on Monday, September 11, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00, with the service immediately following.
