William Mathew 'Bill' Lester Sr.
William Mathew "Bill" Lester, Sr., 91, of Mullens passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at his home following a short illness.
Born October 8, 1927 at Bud, he was the son of the late Jesse James and Julia (Titta) Lester.
Bill was the Owner and Operator of Mullens Salvage and Supply Company since 1959, first working for Norfolk Western Railway at the Elmore Yard from 1943- 1955 and last worked in Bluefield, WV as a Machinist from 1955-1959. He was a member of the Bud Baptist Church and was always so proud to be a lifelong resident of Mullens, WV.
Bill was a life member of the Mullens Lion's Club, American Legion Post 106, Southgate CB Club, Mullens Area Chamber of Commerce, and a crusade chairman of the American Red Cross for 15 years. He was a proud U. S. Army Veteran serving in the World War II 1986 Division of Military Police and was a proud charter member of World War II Memorial.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty June Green Lester; two brothers, Terry M. Lester and Harry E. Lester.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, William M. Lester, Jr.; three grandchildren, Rachel Ellen Lester of Greenville, SC, Matthew L. Lester, and Jay S. Lester; one sister, Ellen J. Lusk; several nieces and nephews; a special niece, Carolyn, and special friends, James Gibson and his wife, Karen and their son, James Jr. and Tresa McGraw.
Committal services and entombment will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley Mausoleum B with Rev. Lewis Arnold officiating.
Those wishing to attend the committal are asked to meet at the mausoleum.
Military graveside rites are being conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
There will be no visitation prior to services.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of William Mathew "Bill" Lester, Sr.
