William T. "Bill" Morris, 74, of Daniels, WV, died on February 13, 2018 at the Veterans Hospital in Beckley, WV, after a long illness.
Born September 11, 1943 in Dunfee, WV, Bill was the son of the late William E. Morris and Annie Avancini Morris. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Eloise Harvey, Imogene Redden and Veoma Bowles.
Bill was a 1961 graduate of Mt. Hope High School. He was an Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was a retired union carpenter and a member of Local Union 911.
Bill lived a very full life. He loved to fish and camp on the Greenbrier River. He entertained for over 36 years with his band, the Starliters. He played the part of Bass in the movie "Matewan." Bill enjoyed being around people and loved everyone. He cared deeply for the staff and his nurses at the VA Hospital.
Bill is survived by his wife and best friend, Jeri Straughn Morris, three children, whom he raised as his own, Jaime Lefler (Steve Davis), Jerry Straughn and Joseph Straughn. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Andrew Lefler, Macalah Lefler, Jacob Lomax, Jayden Straughn (whom he helped raise), Rayven Straughn, Kylee Straughn, Paisley Straughn, Maverick Davis, Sawyer Davis, Novalee Davis and a granddaughter due next month. He is also survived by his sister, Shelby Carroll of Warren, Michigan and lots of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at 4 PM, with Pastor Tim Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Windy Ridge Cemetery at Mount View.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
