Betty's Story

Betty Marie Cook Elkins, age 91, of Beckley, WV, passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
Born on September 30, 1925, in Lake O'Dessa, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Carlton Cook and Henrietta Hough Cook.
Mrs. Elkins was a retired office manager and bookkeeper for local radio stations. She was a member of Family Worship Center in Beckley, a member of Hands-All-Around Quilters, and Senior Friends. She enjoyed flower gardening and sewing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Elkins, son, James R. Elkins II, grandson, James L. Aldridge, and grandson, Todd Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Janice Elkins of Beckley, with whom they shared their home; four grandchildren, Wanelle Ortiz, James R. Elkins III and wife, Jamye, J.T. Elkins and wife, Angela, and Tammy Shrewsbury and husband, Shawn, all of Beckley; six great grandchildren, Toni Marie Ortiz, Tori Shrewsbury, Madelyn Shrewsbury, Peighton Elkins, Paisley Elkins and James Lloyd Aldridge II, all of Beckley; a great-great grandchild, Alex Blankenship.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2 PM with Rev. Okey Slate and Rev. Sam Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV.
