Betty S. Jarrell, formerly of Fairview Avenue in Beckley, passed away on Monday, August 7 in an assisted living home in Chandler, Arizona. She had moved to Arizona in 2004 and lived with her son, Charles M. (Chuck) Jarrell, until recently. She was 92 years old and died from complications related to Alzheimer's disease.
Betty was the daughter of Guy L. and Bertha S. Sanders of Fairmont, WV. She was a graduate of public schools in Fairmont and Fairmont State College (now Fairmont State University). Betty taught distributive education/retailing at Woodrow Wilson High School and the Raleigh County Vocational Technical Center for more than 30 years. While at WWHS, Betty was an advisor to the DECA club and the National Honor Society. In retirement, she was an active member in the Beckley Women's Club, Habitat for Humanity, and the Methodist Temple.
Betty was married for 43 years to Millard G. Jarrell, also a teacher at WWHS, who predeceased her in 1991.
She is survived by her son, Chuck Jarrell of Phoenix; three grandchildren, Melissa L. Jarrell (Josh Ozymy) of Corpus Christi TX, Christopher S. Jarrell (Rhaina) of Lake Havasu City AZ, and Benjamin A. Jarrell of Vail CO; and four great-grandchildren, Sarah Jarrell, Molly Jarrell, Miles Jarrell, and Gus Ozymy.

Celebration of the life of Betty Jarrell will be held at Horizon Presbyterian Church in Phoenix on August 19, 2017. Memorial gifts can be given to the church and sent to 1401 E. Liberty Lane, Phoenix AZ 85048. Her remains will be interred with her late husband at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, WV.
