Billy Ray Thompson, age 85, of Sophia, WV, traded his frail body and mind for a home in Heaven on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born on November 3, 1931, in Colcord, WV, he was the son of the late Virgil Thompson and Alma Harris Thompson.
Bill was a child of God and a member of Coal City Freewill Baptist Church. He was a Korean War Veteran and loved sports and fishing. Bill loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family and his country with all of his heart.
In addition to his parents, Virgil and Alma Thompson, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Thompson, and by brothers, Jack and Jeff Thompson.
He leaves behind his sons, Billy Thompson Jr. of Sophia, Bryan Thompson of Cool Ridge, and Jeffery Thompson and wife, Melisa of Sophia; six grandchildren, Ian Thompson, Sissy Thompson, Jeremy Vance, Jessica Smith, Christopher Attilli and Jeffery Thompson; six great grandchildren, Aubree Russell, Kinsley Holmes, Noah Dotson, Raylan Attilli, Nathan Smith and Joshua Smith; a brother, Bobby Thompson of Circleville, Ohio, and Betty Thompson Rich of Columbus, Ohio.
Special thanks to Gary and the guys at Sophia Auto Parts for their support through his battle with Alzheimers. Thanks to all of the staff at Pinelodge, the VAMC, and Bowers Hospice House who loved and cared for him.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 1 PM, with Pastor Charlie Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 11 AM until 1 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
