Burnell's Story

Burnell Hamrick, 78, of Mt. Lookout, WV, formerly of Nallen, WV, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV, surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late William and Tressie Frame Hamrick and was born October 4, 1938 at Birch River, WV.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his youngest son Patrick Hamrick of Nallen and sister Betty Pishner of Arlington, VA.
Mr. Hamrick was a longtime resident of Nallen and a member of Miller Baptist Church.
On August 1, 1959 he married the love of his life, Helen Plummer Hamrick in Clifton Forge, VA and they were blessed with 57 years of marriage.
Burnell began his career working for Wilderness Lumber Company in Nallen and Meadow River Lumber Company in Rainelle. In 2000 he retired from Georgia-Pacific in Rainelle with 35 years of service.
In his spare time he enjoyed working in the garden and was an extraordinary craftsman of woodworking. He was an avid fisherman who loved to spend time with family and friends on the banks of Meadow River, Summersville Lake (Tailwaters), and Summit Lake.
Burnell was also a talented guitar player and singer who loved to sing Bluegrass/Gospel with family and friends. 
He is survived by his wife Helen of Mt. Lookout, sons, Bobby Hamrick of Crawley and Scott Hamrick of Mt. Lookout, daughters, Pam (Don) Lilly of Surveyor, Jeannie (Danny) Hanna of White Sulphur Springs, and Judy (J.D.) Hamrick Hicks of Beaver; sister Wanda Hymes of Charleston and brother Roger Hamrick of Oak Hill, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In keeping with Mr. Hamrick's final wishes, he was cremated and Minister Alva Blankenship will lead a celebration of life service to be held at a later date.
