Carmella's Story

Carmella "Nellie Josephine" Amato of Barboursville, WV, formerly from Beckley, died Friday, June 16, 2016.
Born October 31, 1922 in Aragona, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale "Patsy" and Gerlanda Iacano Amato.
Nellie formerly worked for Greenbrier Dairy in Mabscott, WJLS Radio in Beckley, and was a teacher at Glenwood Elementary in Kanawha County. She was a member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, Ladies of St. Francis, Cemetery Committee, Beckley Women's Club. In 1957 at the age of 34, Nellie served on the first Raleigh County jury panel to include women jurors.
She is survived by nieces, Lisa (Denny) Staten, Hope Mills, NC, Nancy Amato (John) Stallard, Baltimore MD, Jewell Dheel, Sophia, WV, Rosemary (Ralph) Chase, Lake Milton, OH, Carol (Thomas) Aaron, Sutton, WV, Teresa Chase, Westland, MI; nephew, Patsy (Dorothy) Amato, Taylor, MI; Dear Friend, Sister Janice Rospert, Beckley, WV; great and great-great nieces and nephews--too many to name and her caregivers, great niece, Ruth Smith and sisters.
A funeral liturgy will be 11 am Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, with Very Rev. Paul Wharton, V.F. officiating. A rite of committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service at the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Francis DeSales catholic Church or Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin, OH.
