Charles's Story

Charles "Snoocks" Lindbergh Nelson, 89, of Racine, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday August 28, 2017 after a long illness. He was born September 13, 1927 at Eunice, WV, Raleigh County. He was a kind and loving person. He was a retired UMWA coal miner with 47 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joda Paul Nelson and Opal Hunter Nelson; his loving wife, Mary Weikle Nelson; brothers, Billy Nelson and J.P. Nelson; sisters, Clara Koontz and Phyllis Carr. He is survived by sons, Roger (Judy) Nelson of Racine, WV and Charles "Chuck" (Linda) Nelson of Glen Daniel, WV; grandchildren: Shannon Taylor, Ryan Nelson and LeAnn (Josh) Huffman; great-grandchildren: Christian, Mary Ella and Dallas Taylor; a brother, Bobby Nelson of Huntington, WV and sisters: JoAnn (Herman) Morton of Palenstine, TX, Jane (Jim) Davis of Palenstine, TX and Barbara Michael of Seth, WV. A special thank you to his caregivers, Dorothy Dillon and Faye Maynard for their compassion and loving care. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at CAMC Memorial Division and Hubbard Hospice House.
Service will be 1 pm Friday, Sept. 1, at Sylvester Baptist Church, Sylvester, with the Revs. Ronnie Santonia, David Minturn and Jeff Howerton officiating. Interment in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV. Military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 5578 of Madison, WV.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm Thursday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
