Donald Bryant Garrett, 88 of Oak Hill, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Bowers Hospice House.
Born on May 19, 1929 in Cunard, WV, he was the son of the late Annie Rooney Fitzpatrick and William Thomas Garrett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Garrett; daughter, Charlene Garrett; brothers, Woodrow, Everett, and Nelson Garrett; sisters, Leona Wagner and Patsy Sigmon.
Mr. Garrett was a proud United States Army Veteran who was forever grateful for the opportunity to serve his country and learn skills that provided him his livelihood throughout his life. He spent 40 years working in Chicago, Illinois as a diesel mechanic and business owner. He retired to Dothan, Alabama and then returned to Oak Hill in his last years of life to be near family. His pastimes included gardening and caring for his pets.
Mr. Garrett is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Mr. Garrett's final wishes he will be cremated and his urn will return to Alabama to be buried next to his wife. There will be no services.
