Estel "Dare" McKinney, age 78, of Glen Morgan, WV, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Beckley VA Medical Center following a long illness.
Born on September 12, 1938, at Ghent, he was the son of the late Mason and Bertha Vest McKinney.
Dare was a proud Marine, coal miner and entrepreneur. A devoted family man and Christian, he was a member of Jones Memorial Baptist Church and the Free Masons.
Dare and his wife, Carol, of 57 years, were blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joe McKinney.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Walker McKinney; their children, Tim McKinney of Poy Sippi, Wisconsin, Becky Prince of Shady Spring, and Scott McKinney of Daniels; their eight grandchildren, Adam McKinney of Osh Kosh, Wisconsin, Eric Prince, of Denver, Colorado, Cody Prince of Shady Spring, Kristin and her husband, David Squires, of Gig Harbor, Washington, Jennifer and her husband, Jeremiah Bolen of Saint Albans, Scott-Alan McKinney of Daniels, Jessica McKinney of Charleston, and Skylar McKinney of Mansfield, Ohio; great granddaughter, Ariah Rose and a great grandson due any day, William Dare Woodall; and his sister, Lois Pack of Daniels, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 3 PM with Pastor Allan Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashworth and McKinney Cemetery at Ghent, WV.
Friends may visit with the family from 1 PM until 3 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
The American Legion Post #32 Honor Guard will conducted Military Graveside Rites.
