Surrounded by his loving family, James A. Lilly of Cool Ridge, WV, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
Born on November 28, 1936, in Cool Ridge, he was the son of the late George Henderson and Bertha Maywood Lilly.
He attended Cool Ridge Freewill Baptist Church for approximately 53 years and was one of its founding members. His church family was very special to him and he enjoyed the time spent with them.
He was an avid gardener and also enjoyed tending to his yard, flowers, apple trees and bee hives. A friend to all that crossed his path, he cherished life and met each day with an open heart and a smile. Never too busy for others, he was always willing to lend a helping hand, a word of kindness or a shoulder to lean on.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother George H. Lilly, his sister Roxanna Barber, and his twin brother Robert A. Lilly.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 51 years, Vivian Speck Lilly; three daughters, Leanna Walker and husband, Gerry, of Cool Ridge, WV, Connie Epperly and husband, Don, of Mount Clare, WV, and Lorinda Pennington and fiancé, Randy Hart, of Cool Ridge, WV; eight grandchildren, Holly Rock (Tim), Cindy Gunnoe (Josh), Dylan Epperly (fiancé, Chelsey), Amanda Radford (Nick), Matthew Epperly (fiancé, Katie), Megan Burgess, Kaitlyn Burgess and Bailee Pennington; six great-grandchildren, McKenzye, Bryce and Colten Rock, Carlie and Kierstyn Radford, and Rylee Gunnoe; nieces, Aleatha Sehi, Kay Barber and Debbie Parker and their families; and nephews, Lesley Barber and Orville Barber and their families.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2 PM with Rev. Danny Gilfilen officiating, assisted by Rev. Orville Setliff. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 6 PM until 9 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gerry Walker, Don Epperly, Dylan Epperly, Matthew Epperly, Nick Radford, Josh Gunnoe, Timmy Rock and Randy Hart. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryce Rock and Colten Rock.
