Joseph's Story

Joseph "Bud" Samuel Turner, Jr., 75, of Rupert, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017, in the Peyton Hospice House, Fairlea, following a long illness.

Born April 7, 1942, in Braxton County, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Mary Clark Turner, Sr.

Bud worked in the mines until an injury forced him out. He then worked in the furniture industry to provide for his family. Bud was a hardworking man who loved his family. He had a big heart and enjoyed watching westerns; listening to gospel music; listening to T.D. Jakes; and was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 sisters Norma and Carol Turner and Helen Brooks; and 1 brother Ed Turner.

Survivors include his loving daughter Lisa Lippicott of Rupert; 3 brothers Joseph, III of Rupert, Billy and wife Johanna of Orient Hill, and James Johnson and wife Vanessa of Clay County; 2 brothers Carl and wife Diane of Orient Hill and James of North Carolina; 2 sisters Louisa Wyme of Sutton and Oleta Turner of Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, in the Smathers Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Norm Fleshman officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Friends may call one hour before the service from 1 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
